Local Legends

a bottle of iron smoke whiskey

This month at Whitehouse Liquor & Wine, the spotlight is on some of our local distilleries and wineries. Here are five of our favorites and why we love them.

Belle Isle: This isn’t your grandpappy’s moonshine! Belle Isle’s flavored spirits—blood orange, cold-brew coffee, honey habanero (from $20.99 to $22.99)—are perfect for crafting cocktails. The distillery itself is in Virginia, but Rochester local Nate Hall, the former bar manager at Swan Dive, can’t wait to show you why he loves using these flavored moonshines in his cocktails. Join us in our tasting room from 6:30-7:30 PM on January 16th for the Belle Isle Cocktail Workshop. Seats are filling up fast, so make your reservation in store, over the phone, or here on our website to save your spot!

Black Button Distillery: Located right down the street from Rochester’s public market, our friends at Black Button create delicious small-batch, craft spirits that are the talk of the town. Their Bourbon Cream liqueur ($28.99) is the perfect companion for coffee or hot chocolate during the winter months, and their Citrus-Forward Gin ($29.99) makes a great addition to cocktails like the Bees’ Knees, French 75, and gin & tonic. Black Button will be sampling their new products in our store on Saturday February 1st (1-4 PM).

Fulkerson Winery: The Fulkerson family have been farming on Seneca Lake for seven generations. Their wines appeal to a variety of palates, from their sweet blush, red, and whites (like Red Zeppelin, $7.99) to their classic, dry wines (Pinot Noir, $12.99). Taste for yourself on Friday January 10th (3:30-6:30 PM).

Iron Smoke Distillery: Our neighbors from Fairport are known for their whiskeys, including their famous bourbon ($41.99) and Rattlesnake Rosie’s apple pie and maple bacon infusions ($32.99). Perfect for sipping neat or mixing into an old fashioned, come see why their bottles are flying off the shelves. Iron Smoke will be hosting a tasting in our store on Saturday January 18th (1-4 PM) and Friday January 31st (3:30-6:30 PM). Stop by and try—no reservation required.

Three Brothers Winery: This Finger Lakes family affair does a little bit of everything—brewing, distilling, and winemaking. Their fun and fruity wines, including Scandelicious, Skirt Lifter, and Flirtation ($10.99), are perfect for those who enjoy a touch of sweetness in their beverage. Three Brothers’ Degrees of Riesling series ($10.99) has something for everyone, from sugary sweet to elegantly dry. Join us on Friday January 31st (3:30-6:30 PM) to sample Three Brothers’ wines for yourself.
